Our Story
AgSocio co-founder and general manager Matt Rogers spent 13 years working on strategic purchasing initiatives and social, environmental, and food safety issues in the produce supply chain for Whole Foods Market. Through his work with growers across the US, Mexico, Central and South America, Matt saw the need for a new approach to agricultural labor that better serves workers and growers alike. In early 2018, Matt took a leave from Whole Foods Market to explore the opportunity. He quickly found a lead investor, and AgSocio was born.
Matt’s first hire was industry veteran Goretti V. Calvo, as director of human resources, safety, and training. Goretti brought to the company more than 20 years of experience in agricultural labor law compliance and deeply shared Matt’s belief that the ag labor market was ready for a more modern and professional approach. Goretti has been critical to AgSocio’s work building a formal employment system that goes beyond compliance to implement best practices that benefit of our workforce and our customers over the long term.

Matt and Goretti have partnered since those first days to build a management team comprised of leaders who share AgSocio’s values and bring their own unique talents and experience to the company. The following team members form AgSocio’s management team: Hugo Rico joined AgSocio in 2020, and currently serves as Director of Agricultural Operations. Hugo oversees our work in the field in all regions and communicates daily with clients. Jose Vazquez joined AgSocio in 2021, and currently serves as Human Resources Manager, leading many critical elements of our relationship with our workforce including recruitment, housing, and daily HR processes. Jess Flores joined AgSocio in 2021 and currently serves as Administrative Manager. Jess oversees the payroll team and weekly payroll process and manages other critical office functions including our primary office software.
AgSocio now operates year-round, harvesting vegetables and berries and performing other activities such as irrigation, crop weeding and thinning, transplanting, and tractor work for farming companies of all sizes in California, Arizona, and Colorado. Every day, we are focused on being the best employer and operator we can be to provide industry- leading service and performance for our customers.
